On Sunday, the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan will be observed across the country to commemorate the strong link of love and affection that exists between brothers and sisters.
- The festival of Raksha Bandhan is commemorated by women of all ages tying a symbolic thread around the wrists of their brothers while praying for their safety.
The’muhurat’ for Raksha Bandhan, which falls on a full moon day (purnima) in the month of Shravan, will start around 6.15 a.m. and last until 5.31 p.m.
Worshipping ‘raksha’ and tying it to the wrist as a ‘raksha’ bundle is the principal ritual. Broken rice, white mustard, and gold-colored thread should be used to make the bundle .It should be woven from colourful fabric and stored on a clean cloth for puja.
