Ed Asner, who was best known for his role as fictional TV newsman Lou Grant, died at the age of 91.
The actor, who won a new generation of admirers by portraying elderly widower Carl Fredericksen in the Pixar smash Up, died “peacefully” on Sunday, according to his family.
“Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head – goodnight dad. We love you.”
On the classic The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 1970s, the character Lou Grant was first presented as Mary Richards’ supervisor. From 1977 through 1982, Grant, the irascible editor of the fictional Los Angeles Tribune, was a character in his own show.
